This is a weekly blog hop giving writers a chance to talk about their work in progress. My friend Autumn Birt tagged me — Autumn writes YA High Fantasy like I do (similar genre to the Protectors), plus she plays around with the elements, which I love.
Without further ado, here we go!
What is the working title of your book?
To be honest, I don’t have one! It takes me FOREVER to come up with titles! Right now, it’s saved on my computer as “Paris Madison”
Where did the idea come from for the book?
When we were in Paris, we had a few really long plane rides, and I read a lot of Samantha Young. A few of her characters started walking the streets of Paris about a day after I left the city, and I thought about how fun it would be to write an urban fantasy in Paris. So I did!
What genre does your book fall under?
YA/New Adult Urban fantasy.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
I don’t like to choose actors that will influence peoples’ readings of the story, but let’s face it — this story won’t be read by the public for AT LEAST six months, so let’s go for it!
My main character is Madison. She’s seventeen and has long dark hair with a streak of red in it. I haven’t watched Teen Wolf, but I like Crystal Reed’s look for my main character Madison. She seems feminine but tough at the same time, a lot like Madison herself. Madison’s in training to be a Guardian, so she can use her magic to kick some serious ass, but she also likes boys and wearing make-up and going out.
As for the male protagonist of the book and Madison’s love interest, Colin. . .well, Colin is a twenty-one-year-old Guardian. He’s a really nice guy, but he also has the ability to turn that niceness off to be firm. He has some formidable powers as an Absorber (he absorbs energy instead of being harmed by it). He’s English and has sandy blonde hair. I’m going to have to go with Hunter Parrish on this one. And more recent Hunter Parrish — less “California teen” and more “accomplished hottie.”
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Two years after her dad disappeared, Madison plunges into a search to find out what happened to him when an orb with his magic appears in a raid.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I’m not sure! By the time I finish it, I will have to look at my business plan and see.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
Wait, I thought this was a work in progress? I haven’t finished the first draft yet! About halfway through 🙂
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, The Tale of Lunarmorte by Samantha Young, Intangible by J Meyers
Who or What inspired you to write this book?
Wait, a second, this sounds familiar. . .see above!
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Romance, magic that borders on science fiction, Paris, teleporting, and no love triangle (yet :P)
I tag. . .welp, I’m just gonna be honest. I didn’t tag any writers because I’m lazy. My bad!
